Case Study: Project Kitchen

Kitchen Designer:

Jasmin Brewer

Branch:

Leeds

The Project:

The Ramsay’s invested in a “project house” a few years and have been working to bring it to a point where it matches their own personal style.

The kitchen, specifically, they felt was cramped and “very dated…it was old fashioned, not fit for purpose and the space just didn’t work for us”.

They chose Howarth at Home, following a recommendation from a local fitter in their area who used Howarth Timber for his building materials, and whom was impressed by the premium-quality Symphony kitchens available, with custom design service tailored to their needs and requirements.

Project Goals & Priorities:

  • Create a kitchen to match the Ramsay’s tastes
  • Open the existing space up, to create a larger area for entertaining
  • Install a kitchen that they could enjoy spending time cooking in

The kitchen needed to include the following:

  • Range-style cooker
  • Wine Cooler
  • Quooker Boiling Tap
  • More Worktop Space

Challenge:

The client wanted to create more space, as the existing separate kitchen and dining rooms were both too small for their needs.

They were keen to add a Range-style cooker, which was not possible in the space they had.

Solution:

They removed the wall dividing the kitchen and the dining room, merging two tiny rooms into one space that is far more usable and spacious.

They also decided to block the back door up so that they could add a range cooker to the kitchen. This however, created another challenge for Jasmin.

Challenge:

The Rangemaster cooker took up a lot of space, meaning that there wasn’t much left for space for cupboards or the desired wine cooler. It also restricted where worktops could be placed.

Solution:

Jasmin was able to work around this, by adding Corner Base Units with 300mm doors into the design. She also added a 300mm Pull-Out Larder with five shelves that is great for storage. A Le Mans Corner Unit was added to offer storage for pans, removing the need for the customers to get on their hands and knees to reach the back of the cupboard.

A peninsular design was incorporated into the kitchen to create an additional worktop opposite the cooker, making meal preparation a lot easier for them.

She then worked the wine cooler into the peninsular, which allowed for easy access when entertaining guests whilst coordinating nicely with the range cooker.

What Jasmin had to say:

“The range cooker and the contrast between the Cooks Blue door colour and the solid oak worktop really give the kitchen a WOW factor. The way they have transformed this space is just amazing, as you can see from the before and after, it’s such a transformation from what it was like before. It’s been a real pleasure working with them to create their dream kitchen.”

What the Customer had to say:

“The finished kitchen more than meets our expectations, it’s a pleasure to cook in the space now and it’s made such a difference to our day to day life.”

Advice for Future Customers:

“Don’t underestimate the amount of time it takes from purchase to completion or the amount of boxes and packaging there [is] after installation. Also, find a good fitter who is flexible and happy to make changes. The project took three months from start to finish and we initially came in for a design from Jasmin back in November 2017 so the design process can take time as there is so much to consider.”
