Meet the Designer: Dave Bushby

Choosing a new kitchen is a big decision to make and knowing that you’re getting the information you want, when you need to it is key to ensuring your purchase goes as planned. Our kitchen designers are exactly what you’re looking for; knowledgeable and friendly, without being pushy.

Our Meet the Designer series is a great way of really getting to know our experts and this month we have been talking to Dave Bushby from our Leeds showroom.

All About the Job:

How did you get started in this career?

I have always worked at Builders Merchants since my first Saturday job while at school and I continued working in them while at college doing electrical engineering. I decided the electrical part of my college course wasn’t for me but did enjoy the technical drawing side so when an opportunity came up for a job where I could draw things all day I took it and have enjoyed it ever since!

How long have you been in this career?

I have been working in kitchens since 2003 so 15 years now!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The part of my job I most enjoy is drawing kitchens, especially when it has been particularly challenging to get everything in that the customer has requested.

Which is your favourite kitchen range, and why?

This changes quite regularly, currently the Linear range is my favourite overall although the new Midnight Blue colour in the Laura Ashley range is probably my favourite colour.

What one piece of advice would you give someone thinking about buying a kitchen?

Take your time and although it is a big purchase try not to compromise the quality & finish of the kitchen just for a cheaper price.

Getting to Know You:

Who or what inspires you?

This might be a bit of an odd one and is my gamer side talking, but Nintendo! As a company, they are willing to take risks bringing out new (and sometimes weird) products that don’t always work out for them, but they never give up and even after something fails they continue to work on bringing out new and interesting innovations.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

The place I would most like to visit again would be Australia, had some very memorable days (and nights) when I was there!

What was the last film or TV series you watched?

The last TV series I watched were ‘Altered Carbon’ and ‘Brooklyn 99’.

The most important question:

Is it a cob, bun, bread cake or something else entirely?

Either bread bun or bread cake works for me!
