At Howarth At Home, our Kitchen Designers offer expertise and knowledge to help guide you down the path to the perfect kitchen to suit your tastes, needs and requirements.
For this month’s Meet the Designer, I chatted with Diane Bradshaw, the face of our Mansfield kitchen showroom.
All About the Job:
How did you get started in this career?
From a very young age, I was always making something out of nothing – they call it upcycling or repurposing now, but I was doing it long before it was fashionable!
Loved creating, designing and changing things around – the number of times my daddy came home, and I had moved his chair as it did not fit in my design. I think it was then that I understood I had to take other people’s needs into account!
On my return to England after 13 years abroad, I went to help as a Saturday Girl meeting and getting clients at a kitchen company. I was in awe of the designers and their skills – this would be something that I would love to do but they also sold timber, doors and joinery and I was so intrigued by the projects people were doing, I started to learn all about the building trade. I then progressed to full time work selling bricks, blocks, timber, doors and joinery and every now and again a kitchen – but my heart was kitchens, so I decided to change career and focus on kitchens and this is where I have been ever since.
How long have you been in this career?
This is the scary part – nearly 30 years! I am still learning everyday.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Listening to my clients and helping them create their dream kitchen – I love a design challenge.
Which is your favourite kitchen range, and why?
What one piece of advice would you give to someone thinking about buying a kitchen?
This is a big decision so as much information as possible is always helpful – pictures from magazines / internet would help us to guide and advise what would be achievable for your budget.
Who or what inspires you?
Everyone! We all have a story and I find peoples trials, tribulations and happiness inspirational daily.
Where if your favourite place in the world?
So long as I have my family with me, it’s magic – but we all like Menorca.
What was the last film or TV series you watched?
Silent Witness – chilling – but made me think and cry.
The Most Important Question:
Is it a cob, bun, bread cake or something else entirely?
Nottingham born and bred – it’s obviously a COB! However, I do love all colloquialisms.
